What is BaZi?
BaZi (八字, "eight characters") — also called the Four Pillars of Destiny— is the Chinese system that maps your birth year, month, day, and hour into four pillars of two characters each. For over a thousand years it's been used less for "what's my personality" and more for the sharper question: is this the right time?
Your Day Master — the heavenly stem of your day pillar — is the core of the chart: the element that represents you. The other seven characters describe the weather around it. Then ten-year luck cyclesand annual pillars move across that chart like seasons, which is why the same person gets different answers in different years. That's the part most horoscopes miss, and the part we built LuckPillar around: Know when to move.
Why birth time and city matter
Two people born the same day in different cities can have different charts. We convert your clock time to true solar timeusing your birth city's longitude, historical time zone, and daylight saving rules — the precision step most free calculators skip, and the one that most often changes your hour pillar.
Frequently asked questions
What is a BaZi chart (Four Pillars of Destiny)?
BaZi maps the exact moment you were born into four pillars — year, month, day, and hour — each made of one heavenly stem and one earthly branch. It's a 1,200-year-old Chinese timing system: less "what's your personality," more "what season of life are you in, and when should you move."
Is this BaZi calculator really free?
Yes. Casting your chart is pure astronomy and math, and it runs free with no account. The full AI-written reading — what your chart means for love, career, and money — is where a free LuckPillar account (with 300 Lumens included) comes in.
What if I don't know my birth time?
You'll still get three of the four pillars — year, month, and day — which includes your Day Master and five-element balance. The hour pillar adds precision, so it's worth asking family or checking your birth certificate.
How is BaZi different from Western astrology?
Western astrology is built around who you are. BaZi is built around when: it divides your life into ten-year luck cycles and annual pillars, so the same question — job, move, relationship — gets a different answer depending on timing.
Do you store my birth details?
Not from this page. The calculator computes your chart and shows it to you — nothing is saved unless you create an account and choose to keep it.
How accurate is the calculation?
We convert your local birth time to true solar time using your birth city's coordinates, time zone, and historical daylight saving rules — the detail most free calculators skip, and the one that changes your hour pillar most often.
